DescriptionDescription: Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) is seeking an IT Manager to direct IT operations for a 100+ person organization with 8 branch offices and 4 satellite offices statewide. ILS provides a full range of free civil legal services to clients who qualify, pursuant to the ILS eligibility guidelines, in areas such as family, consumer, housing, health, income maintenance and employment. The ILS IT office is located in the ILS administration office in Indianapolis, Indiana. The IT Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and use of ILS technology, working closely with ILS staff and the ILS technology committee to assess and address user and law practice needs. The IT Manager is supervised by the Executive Director. The candidate must have a broad knowledge of legal and emerging technologies to provide guidance and expertise in aligning the organization’s short and long-term IT needs with its strategic goals and objectives. The IT Manager may be expected to work before or after normal working hours and from remote locations in order to troubleshoot and address technology problems and to implement software and hardware upgrades and modifications. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Supervise the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, software applications and peripherals. 2. Provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions and file maintenance. 3. Work with the ILS technology committee to develop strategies and plans to enhance client services, improve user effectiveness and foster innovation. 4. Provide day-to-day technical support to program staff. 5. Communicate effectively with the ILS administration staff, managing attorneys, office managers, project directors and center directors. 6. Manage IT staff, including their hiring, training, evaluation, supervision and discipline. 7. Assist the ILS Web Development Project Director with the maintenance and development of the ILS Indiana Justice web site. 8. Assist with technology at program events such as ILS board meetings, training events, Access to Justice Conference and community events. 9. Maintain documentation of system and user manuals, licensing agreements and vendor contracts/agreements including amendments and upgrades. 10. Oversee help desk and technical support services. 11. Manage financial aspects of IT including purchasing, budgeting and budget review. 12. Develop and implement IT policies and procedures including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, purchasing and service provision. 13. Manage servers, security solutions, network hardware and equipment. 14. Administer Nortel BCM phone system, Norstar voice mail and Nortel Meridian telephone CICS and MICS. 15. Negotiate and administer the outsourcing of vendor and consultant contracts and service agreements. 16. Oversee disaster avoidance, mitigation and retrieval in accordance with ILS’s Disaster Plan. 17. Support ILS’s overall mission and comply with grant agreements, assurances, regulations, guidelines and instructions and ILS policies and procedures. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience. Three or more years of IT experience. Experience in working with non-profits and/or legal services organizations preferred. Experience in project and organizational management. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Pro Bono Net, a national nonprofit organization using innovative technology to increase legal assistance for poor people, seeks a highly motivated candidate to join our program staff team. This position will provide technical and project support to nonprofit legal aid organizations in states building legal resource web sites to serve clients, lawyers, and pro bono volunteers. This is a great position for someone who is passionate about the power of technology and excited to work across an entire nonprofit sector. This position can be based in either San Francisco or New York City.
Background
Pro Bono Net is a nonprofit organization with offices in both New York City and San Francisco that works in close partnership with nonprofit legal organizations across the country to increase access to justice for poor and moderate-income people. It seeks to do so through (i) supporting the innovative and effective use of technology by the nonprofit legal sector, (ii) increasing participation by volunteers, and (iii) facilitating collaborations among nonprofit legal organizations and advocates working on similar issues or in the same region.
Currently almost thirty regions are using Pro Bono Net’s tools to build web-based self-help legal resources for low-income persons facing legal problems, as well as online support forums for legal advocates working on behalf of the poor. These statewide website projects bring together representatives from legal services programs, pro bono projects, courts, law schools, libraries and social service organizations across the state to collaborate and coordinate their development. Responsibilities
Partner Support
• Work as part of a team to support the planning, deployment and maintenance of our partner web sites.
• Provide regular customer support to partner organizations on technology-related issues.
• Manage online partner support site and keep program materials up to date.
• Coordinate e-communication vehicles, including monthly training e-calendars, Tips of the Week, content and software support updates.
• Setup and configure partner websites using PBN’s web-based content management system (CMS). No programming required.
• Keep abreast of program opportunities and developments in legal services technology.
• Represent organization at industry conferences as needed.
Training and Resource Development
• Work as part of program team to provide technical training and support to new and existing web-based projects.
• Develop and conduct “virtual” trainings for nonprofit partner organizations around the country on site tools and related topics.
• Create and update support documentation, including technical guides.
• Coordinate and support special development projects as needed.
General Responsibilities
• Interface with internal technology development team to help troubleshoot technical issues and provide programmatic guidance on functional specifications as needed.
• Provide technical assistance and support to other program staff.
• Compile and analyze Web site usage statistics for reporting.
• Support other program development activities as needed.
Qualifications
• Strong self-motivation and initiative required;
• Breadth of knowledge of and interest in web-based tools and standards such as HTML, Content Management Systems, RSS and social media as well as an interest in emerging web technology;
• Experience producing and manipulating multimedia content for the Web preferred;
• Excellent communication and writing skills, particularly the ability to make technology understandable to people without technical skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work well with people and coordinate team projects;
• Demonstrated multi-tasking and prioritization skills;
• Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector and/or public interest law;
• Sense of humor required;
• Flexibility to adapt to changing needs;
• College degree recommended.

Pro Bono Net seeks a Circuit Rider to assist our partner organizations as they plan and implement their statewide web sites. The Circuit Rider will provide strategic, editorial and technological advice; work to increase involvement by groups and individuals with a strong interest in access to justice; and serve as a critical communication link between the states. Although the Circuit Rider will troubleshoot site software issues with states, this is not a technology support position. The Circuit Rider will help website project coordinators in each state understand how to best generate and maintain legal content, work with project stakeholders, market the site to low-income clients, and evaluate its effectiveness. Additionally, the Circuit Rider will develop resource materials for web site coordinators; facilitate regular meetings among state partners; and travel on-site to problem-solve project issues, conduct outreach and promote the project to diverse audiences.
Position Responsibilities Community Organizing and Consulting - Support the planning, deployment and maintenance of LawHelp.org statewide websites; - Coordinate and lead monthly meetings with assigned states; - Facilitate discussions among multiple service providers, courts, and community organizations within each state regarding creating and sharing online resources; - Facilitate use of collaborative support tools, e.g., email lists, model documents, online user guides and training materials, and content management tools; - Visit states partners to provide training, problem solving assistance, and cultivate new partnerships; - Work with host organizations to identify improvements and new features on the site.
Training and Resource Development - Work with other PBN staff to continue development of existing project support program for state partners; - Conduct virtual and on-site trainings for host organizations on site administration procedures and substantive project issues; - Make presentations at law firms, conferences, and other venues around the country to gain support for project and cultivate community partnerships; - Coordinate special development projects as needed; - Write resource articles for state partners discussing site administration procedures and substantive project issues; - Maintain an online support site for state partners with resources on best practices for developing and maintaining content, maintaining and managing the sites, marketing the sites, and other key issues; - Participate as a moderator and/or trainer in national industry conferences; - Assist in grant proposal development and reporting
Administration and Partnerships - Coordinate and communicate closely with all PBN staff in San Francisco, New York and Baltimore; - Participate in regular meetings with other industry circuit riders and national partners; - Create and maintain reporting systems among multiple organizations to document work with each state in an efficient and effective manner; and - Participate in national industry email lists.
Candidate Qualifications - Strong self-motivation and initiative required; - 2+ years experience working with public interest legal organizations, or significant technical expertise required; - Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree in a related field preferred; - Very web-savvy and fluent in the discussion of web-based tools required; additional technical knowledge such as HTML preferred; - Demonstrated ability to work well with people, coordinate team projects, and communicate effectively; - Excellent and proven project management skills; - Ability to foster and facilitate collaborations creatively; - Comfortable with public speaking and training; - Excellent communication and writing skills, particularly the ability to make technology understandable to people without technical skills; - Willingness and ability to travel to national conferences and field visits with state partners; - Sense of humor required; - Based in either San Francisco or New York City.
